Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme aims to reduce high levels of malnutrition and anaemia through education and services for pregnant women and children under six. Anganwadi workers (AWWs) are expected to use contact opportunities to communicate with mothers and caregivers during home visits, beneficiary visits at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC), during Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) and community events (mother’s meeting, annaprashan and Godh Bharai Diwas) to bring about desired health behaviour changes. Capacity review of AWWs show substantial disparity between AWW’s knowledge and their ability to translate knowledge into advice in counselling sessions.
