Synopses: The tool elaborates upon the prevention and management of diarrhea. It provides information on causes, symptoms and treatment of diarrhea. The transmission of diarrhea can take place through contaminated water and food, unclean hands, unhygienic conditions in house and surroundings and open defecation. Diarrhea results in loose and watery stools and lead to water deficiency in the body. To manage a child’s diarrhea at home following points should be remembered: • A child below two months should be breast fed and given oral rehydration solution (ORS) • A child between two to six months should be breast fed and given ORS and zinc syrup • A child above six months along with breast milk, ORS, zinc syrup should also be given coconut water, fresh fruit juice and clean water etc. In case diarrhea becomes severe the child should be taken to the doctor immediately.
