This training module is the first in a series of 10 modules developed for training health workers on social and behaviour change communication (BCC). The module provides a brief overview of various aspects of BCC covered in the remaining modules such as stages of behaviour change, skills for effective BCC, use of interpersonal communication and BCC techniques on VHND, use of BCC materials etc. Apart from this, the module also dwells upon the link between health problems and behaviour of people and how behaviour change at individual, family and community level can bring improvement in people's overall health. Through a story, the module further discusses the problems faced by a health worker in motivating a pregnant woman named Sarla to consume healthy diet and iron and folic acid tablets and to come for health checkups on VHND.
